Securent Joins With OASIS to Help Advance Open Standards for Application Entitlement Management
(March 19, 2007)--Securent said that it is a Sponsor Member of the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS). OASIS is a not-for-profit, international consortium that drives the development, convergence, and adoption of e-business standards, such as the eXtensible Access Control Markup Language (XACML).
Securent will work with OASIS toward the advancement of current and emerging standards, including XACML, by sharing its expertise in open architectures and best practices learned by addressing customers' needs for application and data security, and compliance. Last year, Securent unveiled the industry's most robust enterprise application entitlement management system based on open industry-accepted standards. By delivering its Entitlement Management Solution (EMS) as an XACML-compliant product, Securent has provided customers such as Credit Suisse and Qualcomm with a scalable and cost-effective alternative to custom coding fine-grained access controls into applications.
Securent EMS is comprised of three XACML-based components that empower IT administrators and business users to administer, enforce, audit and review role- and rule-based policies -- the Policy Administration Point (PAP), the Policy Decision Point (PDP), and the Policy Enforcement Point (PEP). The open architecture is vastly different from conventional entitlement management products and toolsets that are tied to specific vendor platforms, making them difficult to integrate, manage, and scale across heterogeneous IT environments.
By complying with the XACML OASIS Standard, Securent addresses customer concerns about vendor lock-in of current proprietary solutions. This is especially important as more commercial, off-the-shelf applications and infrastructure components are exposing their entitlement policies in XACML, which drives the market for an XACML-based entitlement management solution. Moreover, as customers participate in the OASIS XACML Technical Committee, they help make it a stronger standard, further increasing its broad applicability.
Securent enables organizations to secure sensitive applications and data with ease and precision. Securent's Entitlement Management Solution (EMS) is the first and only XACML standard-based solution that allows organizations to create, enforce, review, and audit fine-grained access policies across heterogeneous application and IT environments distributed throughout the enterprise, all with centralized management and visibility.
EMS provides a more scalable and cost-effective alternative to custom coding of fine-grained access controls into applications. The results, as seen in Fortune 1000 deployments, include improved security and compliance with regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard, the Gramm- Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), Basel Capital Accord (Basel II), and the National Association of Securities Dealers Rule 2711 (NASD 2711).
