BBT Advances Security and Compliance With Lancope's StealthWatch for Network Behavior Analysis

(March 18, 2008)-- Lancope, the provider of the StealthWatch System, the most widely used Network Behavior Analysis (NBA) and response solution, announced that BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee is using StealthWatch to strengthen information security and improve overall network management.

BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee relies on the StealthWatch System to monitor its entire network for potential security threats. In addition, StealthWatch helps the health plan provider diagnose latency and availability issues on its network. StealthWatch also aids regulatory compliance efforts for BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee by providing detailed insight into network behavior and user activity.

"Before StealthWatch, we manually analyzed and correlated our network activity data," said Sharon Black, chief information security officer (CISO) for BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee. "StealthWatch automatically gives us detailed network insight through a single, easy-to-use interface, aiding our security, network operations and compliance efforts."

By continuously monitoring traffic across multiple network segments, StealthWatch prioritizes suspicious network behavior and enables BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee to gain awareness of the network from a security perspective. Through its behavior-based approach, StealthWatch easily detects threats that bypass signature-based devices, like intrusion detection/prevention systems. Furthermore, StealthWatch is an auto-tuning system that eliminates the time consuming task of updating signature databases. By monitoring how the network grows and behaves, StealthWatch also detects anomalies in operational activities, helps engineering teams with troubleshooting and assists with load balancing and other operational issues. These capabilities help BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee meet internal and external compliance requirements.

"From its initial installation, StealthWatch provided immediate advantages and proved itself to be extremely user friendly," said Black. "Like a Swiss Army knife, StealthWatch seems to offer limitless capabilities to dissect and analyze network behavior data. We can put this information to many different uses across our security, network and government business operations groups."

"For leading health care insurers and providers, like BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, who transmit thousands of patient records daily within and beyond their facilities, network security and availability is a top priority," said Harland LaVigne, president and CEO of Lancope. "StealthWatch optimizes both network security and operations without taxing internal resources. As an added benefit, StealthWatch's data analysis and network visibility can also help satisfy stringent regulatory compliance requirements."
