340B Prime Vendor Program Adds OTC Diagnostic Test Kits to Its Pharmacy Portfolio for the Safety-Net

(March 08, 2007)--The 340B Prime Vendor Program, managed by HealthCare Purchasing Partners International® ("HPPI"), announced that it has added FDA-approved OTC diagnostic test kits, manufactured by Irvine, CA-based Early Detect, Inc. ("EDI"). The agreement began Feb. 15, 2007 and includes 14 over-the-counter diagnostic test kits sold in outpatient pharmacies. EDI is leading the way in the paradigm shift from traditional lab testing to rapid diagnostic test kits.

HPPI is the Office of Pharmacy Affairs' awarded contractor to serve as the Prime Vendor for the 340B Program. The Prime Vendor Program was established to increase the discounts already offered under Section 340B of the U.S. Public Health Service Act. The Prime Vendor's role is to secure sub-ceiling discounts on outpatient pharmaceuticals, and discounts on other pharmacy related products and services for participating public hospitals, community health centers and other safety-net health care providers.

EDI has agreed to provide its diagnostic test kits to 340B Prime Vendor Program participants at discounted prices. "We are excited to add EDI as a new supply partner of HRSA's Prime Vendor Program. This partnership is expected to improve the safety-net provider's ability to test frequently, make early diagnosis, and effectively treat their patients," said Chris Hatwig, senior director of the 340B Prime Vendor Program.
