Agion Partners with Stryker Instruments to Introduce FDA 510k Cleared Catheters

(Dec 19, 2008)-- Agion Technologies has announced it has signed an agreement with Stryker Corporation's Instruments Division to incorporate Agion's natural antimicrobial technology into a new pain management catheter. The product, Silver ExFen Catheter, has achieved FDA 510K clearance and will be marketed in the US.

"Since Medicare and Medicaid will no longer pay for preventable Surgical Site Infections (SSI), products like the Stryker antimicrobial catheter will become a critical tool for the medical profession," said Paul Ford, chief executive officer of Agion Technologies. Agion's innovative antimicrobial technology is based on naturally-occurring silver, a powerful antimicrobial element. Silver is integrated into the polymer blend of the catheter and is not affected by abrasions to the surface. Agion's antimicrobial protection lasts for the life of the product.
