U.S. Air Force Selects HIPAA Compliant Fortify Defender to Protect and Monitor Applications

(March 19,2007) -- Fortify Software said  that the 554th Electronic Systems Wing, a unit of the Air Force Electronic Systems Center at Hanscom AFB, Mass., has adopted Fortify Defender to help protect and monitor its applications. The wing develops, fields, sustains and operates worldwide communications-computer and force protection systems and capabilities for the President and Secretary of Defense, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, unified combatant commanders, services and specified Department of Defense and non-DoD agencies to direct military forces.These systems are often a major target for hackers, both domestic and international.

In order to protect their applications, and the data that is transmitted between them, the U.S. Air Force (USAF) relies on the most advanced and sophisticated security products and techniques available.

"With the increasing number of attacks against applications, the USAF has a substantial need for tools and processes that will help us protect our applications," said Major Bruce Jenkins, Defender implementation project lead with the 754th Electronic Systems Group, Maxwell-Gunter AFB, Ala.

The wing will use Fortify Defender to protect and monitor its applications from attacks, including SQL injection, cross-site scripting and buffer overflows, among many other types of malicious activity. The USAF was able to quickly deploy Fortify Defender to provide a high level of protection for its Java and .NET applications.Fortify Defender addresses key software security compliance requirements, including Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standards, OWASP Top Ten and HIPAA.
