DBI's Brother-WatchDog Release 1.3 Adds New Support for DB2 9 PureXML and Oracle Application Server (OAS)

(March 26, 2007)--Database-Brothers,  provider of database auditing and performance solutions, announced a new release of Brother-WatchDog, the breakthrough software solution designed to capture and record database activities to create immutable audit trails and hold privileged data users accountable. Brother- WatchDog helps organizations fight the risks of identity and trade secret thefts, provides audit trails required for HIPAA, PCI, and GLBA compliance, and improves SOX preventative and detective controls.

Release 1.3 of Brother-WatchDog fully supports the auditing of XQuery commands against a DB2 9 database, as well as extends audit repository support to all editions of DB2 -- from DB2 Express-C (Community Edition) through Enterprise Edition with DPF. Customers may elect to also take advantage of DB2 9's compression capabilities to further minimize disk storage requirements, while concurrently taking advantage of DB2 9's automatic maintenance and autonomic tuning features.

"With the growing popularity of XML data storage, and given IBM DB2 9's robust support for XML, DBI has raised the bar to fully support XQuery statement auditing," said Scott Hayes, President & CEO of DBI. "Organizations are now potentially vulnerable to tampering of SOX comptroller data via XQuery commands. An XQuery can also be used to access HIPAA PHI, PCI card holder data, identities, and valuable trade secrets. If an organization is just auditing SQL activity, then XQuery commands pose a significant risk to incomplete information and failed controls."

What's more, 1.3 adds support for Oracle Application Server as a Web Server platform for Brother-WatchDog's patent pending Web Application End User Unmasking capabilities. With this technology, DBI can successfully propagate application user identities all the way down to the database despite the barriers ordinarily created by Connection Pooling architectures. "The Audit and IT communities have long thought end user identity propagation was an impossible problem to solve, but DBI cracked the secret code about a year ago," continued Hayes. "While speaking with a CIO at the recent Marcus Evans CIO-Summit in Henderson, NV, I explained to him that Brother-WatchDog could show his organization how his competing suppliers in foreign countries were using or abusing their data access privileges within their application. He was thrilled and relieved to be able to hold these suppliers and their staff accountable."

Finally, release 1.3 includes several other miscellaneous enhancements that were requested by customers to improve installation procedures, flexibility, and usability. With new features and reports, organizations should expect to achieve one or more of the following benefits: Satisfactory remediation of database-related control deficiencies, Valuable data assets are better secured, data breaches and media attention are avoided, and automation of controls lowers costs of compliance and improves profitability.
