nuBridges Launches SOX Compliant Data Secure for z/OS Secures Mainframe eBusiness

(Oct 03, 2007)-- nuBridges, the secure eBusiness authority, announced that nuBridges Data Secure for z/OS is the first packaged application to ensure eBusiness security on mainframe computers. The application provides data encryption at the field and file level to protect credit card and other sensitive data at rest.

“It’s not unusual for enterprises to have critical or sensitive information residing on a number of different platforms and databases,” said Gary Palgon, nuBridges vice president of Product Management. “While the software industry has done a good job of developing applications to secure information such as credit card numbers, social security numbers and health information on desktops, servers and midrange systems, securing data on mainframes has been largely ignored—until now. Many mainframe applications are legacy systems and making changes to these types of applications is very difficult and fraught with risk.”

nuBridges Data Secure for z/OS benefits organizations in a variety of industries that depend on eBusiness such as retail, financial services, transportation and healthcare where mainframe computers are an integral part of the IT infrastructure. The new mainframe product works with the nuBridges Enterprise Key Manager to provide robust key management on z/OS. nuBridges Data Secure for z/OS provides executable programs and an SDK that encrypt data at both the file and the field level, whether the data is stored in sequential data sets, PDS members, VSAM files or DB2 tables. It also helps companies meet compliance mandates such as the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX), the Healthcare Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the myriad of recent state-mandated Breach Notification Laws.

Like nuBridges Data Secure for Windows, UNIX and other environments, nuBridges Data Secure for z/OS allows for centralized key management with decentralized encryption and decryption. This enables data to be secured as soon as possible within the enterprise, to be encrypted and decrypted on any platform or database and to function even if the network goes down. nuBridges Data Secure for z/OS enables keys to be rotated on-demand and multiple keys to be used simultaneously. Other features include simultaneous key usage, role-based authorization levels, audit log generation to support a security audit, and the ability to decrypt restored data using the appropriate key without that key being stored on the same media as the data.

“Data security is not something that should be treated lightly within an enterprise,” said Palgon. “Fortunately, nuBridges Data Secure for z/OS closes the enterprise data security gap by providing the same level of protection for data residing on a mainframe computer as on Windows and UNIX-based servers and PCs, and midrange systems.”
