New Alert Logic Log Manager Offers Mid-Sized Organizations Easiest Way to Collect, Review and Archive Logs

(Nov 05, 2007)-- Alert Logic, provider of on-demand IT compliance and security solutions for mid-sized organizations, introduced Alert Logic Log Manager at the CSI 2007 Exhibition. The new log management solution, which is the first in the industry to be delivered via a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform, helps organizations easily automate the collection, review, analysis and archival of log data.

Managing logs, which are overviews of activities generated by operating systems, applications, anti-malware software, firewalls, and other security and network devices, has traditionally been a complex and time-consuming task. Manually reviewing and analyzing hundreds or thousands of logs on a regular basis is virtually impossible with a typical IT department’s resources.

Yet industry and government regulations such as the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), require that log data be collected, regularly reviewed, and securely archived. Alert Logic Log Manager helps organizations comply with these mandates by completely automating the collection, review and archival process.

Alert Logic Log Manager offers the easiest way for organizations to solve compliance and security challenges by delivering log management capabilities in an on-demand model. Its SaaS architecture enables Alert Logic Log Manager to automatically collect, aggregate and compress log data on an organization’s local network and then perform all subsequent processing, analysis, reporting, forensics and archiving in Alert Logic’s highly secure and redundant datacenters.

“For the first time, comprehensive log management has become possible without the deployment of a cumbersome, expensive infrastructure. Our on-demand solution makes it possible for mid-sized companies to get all of the benefits of log management without any investment in hardware, software or storage,” said Chris Smith, vice president of marketing at Alert Logic. “Alert Logic Log Manager is easy for mid-sized organizations to buy, deploy and use, and makes it possible for them to achieve compliance and increase security and network availability in a hassle-free way.”

In addition to helping customers achieve compliance, Alert Logic Log Manager also makes log data available for analysis to enhance overall security and availability of an organization’s network. The solution can be used to identify security incidents, policy violations, fraudulent activity, and operational problems as they occur – making it easier for IT departments to respond and resolve these events through a Web browser-based interface that provides access to all historical log data.

Key capabilities of Alert Logic Log Manager include:

* Fast and fully indexed archive searching: All archived log data, regardless of size or age, is searchable via a web portal.
* Flexible forensic views: Customizable views of both raw log data and normalized log data allow both technical and managerial users to access the data they need, when and how they need it.
* Fully redundant processing and archival: All data is both archived in its original immutable format and processed in two separate Alert Logic datacenters, ensuring data redundancy and protection.
* Single, centralized view and management of all log data: All data is accessible via a single console that allows for both zoned views of logical subsets of organizational data as well as views of the entire organization’s distributed log data.
* Automated thresholding and alerting: Alerts can be automatically generated based on customizable rules that detect specific event conditions in the log data.
