AlterPoint Unveils Advanced Network Security and Compliance Capabilities for Multi-Vendor Networks

(Aprl 22, 2008)-- AlterPoint announced the release of advanced network security and compliance capabilities for NetworkAuthority, its flagship open network management solution, which will help customers automatically discover, prioritise and remediate network vulnerabilities and compliance policy violations as they occur. As a result, enterprises will be able to reduce the time, cost and level of expertise required to keep complex, multi-vendor networks audit-ready and secure against constantly evolving threats.

“As the complexity of managing network security continues to increase, our customers are looking for a more efficient and cost-effective alternative to manual management processes,” said Roddy MacLennan, sales director at Devoteam UK. “We recommend adoption of an automated management solution that enforces security and compliance policies and eliminates the need to manage configurations at the device level.”

By enabling automated, policy-based network management, NetworkAuthority helps companies eliminate critical security threats before they affect the network while achieving continuous compliance with internal best practices and external regulatory requirements. In addition, the product provides an advanced network analytics environment that provides in-depth visibility into the security and compliance posture of the network. NetworkAuthority’s security and compliance capabilities include:

* Automated vulnerability notification and remediation – Provides automated discovery, alerting, prioritisation and remediation of network vulnerabilities as they occur
* Out-of-the-box analytics, dashboards and scorecards – Provides at-a-glance, real-time visibility into the security and compliance status of the network and supports drill down into detailed violation information such as how many devices are not in compliance, what specifically makes them non-compliant, and how severe is the violation; also understands which vulnerabilities are affecting which key security and compliance indicators
* Criticality analysis – Enables more intelligent, automated remediation based on device criticality ranking
* Site standardisation – Enables more intelligent application of policies based on physical site (i.e. branch office or warehouse) or logical site (i.e. a business unit)
* Compatibility with ZipForge network management components – Allows network teams to access a growing library of network management components such as scripts, change templates, rules, policies, adapters and plug-ins developed by more than 6800 members of the ZipTie open source community, including ADTRAN, CITTIO, Citrix, Concursive, Crossbeam, Force10, Fortinet, Juniper, Radware, Riverbed, Silver Peak Systems and Vyatta, among others
* Detailed reporting - Automates audit-quality reporting and eliminates audit “fire drills”

“Over the past five years, the proliferation of high-speed connectivity networks and logical overlay networks -- all running over the same physical links -- have made it all but impossible for network teams to maintain consistent security, access, audit and change control using manual processes and device-specific management tools,” said David Barry, AlterPoint’s vice president and managing director of EMEA. “Our goal is to help customers balance network reliability, performance, security and compliance with expanding business and regulatory requirements through a process of intelligent automation and standardisation.”
