PETCO to Present New In-Store Mobility and PCI Compliance Solution Using Aruba Networks at NRF Big Show

(Jan 13, 2008)- Aruba Networks, a global leader in wireless LANs and secure mobility solutions, announced that J Smith, Vice President of Network & Store Systems at PETCO Animal Supplies, Inc., will present at the National Retail Federation's 98th Big Show on how PETCO has deployed new Aruba-based in-store mobility solutions to achieve PCI compliance and reduce costs. The presentation, titled "In-Store Mobility Done Right: Improving Processes in a PCI-Compliant & Cost-Effective Manner," will be delivered at 10:30 a.m. on January 13, at the Big Ideas session at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City.

PETCO offers a complete selection of pet-related products and pet services, including grooming, canine education, vaccination clinics and photography in its more than 950 stores in all 50 states, and online at PETCO.com. The company wanted to deploy mobility solutions to eliminate error-prone and time-consuming manual entry of inventory stock data, reduce paperwork and enhance customer service. The first wireless solutions were deployed in 1998, however, the advent of new handheld wireless platforms, growing security threats, increased operating costs of the legacy systems and the need for PCI Compliance mandated a major system upgrade.

"We selected Aruba for our store-wide upgrade because they offered better value, higher security and significantly greater functionality than either Symbol or Cisco," said Smith. "Aruba has been a stellar partner for us, and helped us field a solution tailored specifically to our needs. For example, we can keep our security current across all stores by simply pushing updates from our centralized management system. While Aruba was new to us and not well known in retail wireless at the time, they have proven themselves by helping us achieve PCI compliance, delivering mesh technology to lower in-store installation costs, and cutting our support costs by more than 50 percent."
