BigFix Enhances Security Configuration Management Solution to Addressing the Needs of Federal Agencies

(Feb 02, 2008)--"The FDCC mandate from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is designed to ensure both stronger IT security and more efficient manageability through common Windows endpoint configurations. BigFix is committed to making it easy for government agencies to implement the FDCC in the least disruptive and efficient way possible." said BigFix CTO Amrit Williams on announcing the enhancements of its Security Configuration Management solution.

"With BigFix Security Configuration Management, federal agencies gain real-time visibility into endpoint client configurations and continuous enforcement of those configurations regardless of the endpoint's network connectivity. Agencies using BigFix will be able to bring Microsoft Windows XP and Vista endpoints into compliance and then keep them there utilizing minimal IT resources." he continued.

BigFix, provider of real-time IT security and management solutions for the distributed enterprise, has enhanced its BigFix Security Configuration Management solution to help federal agencies required to comply with the Federal Desktop Core Configuration (FDCC) initiative by the February 1, 2008 deadline. BigFix Security Configuration Management runs on top of the BigFix Discovery 7 platform, providing massive scalability, real-time visibility, and continuous control across distributed desktop, mobile, and server endpoint computers.

As part of the FDCC initiative, the OMB recently mandated that all federal agencies using Windows XP and Vista implement standard configurations as developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the Department of Defense, and the Department of Homeland Security. BigFix has updated its Security Configuration Management to align with the standards so that federal agencies deploying the module can easily and automatically enforce common Windows desktop configurations as specified by the OMB.

"We have implemented the BigFix solution at over 900 geographical worldwide locations and understand just how rapidly and cost effectively the BigFix product will help federal departments ensure FDCC and FISMA compliance," said LongView President/CEO, Ben Long. "It's quick to deploy, can easily scale from 1,000 to 100,000s of Windows computers and makes minimal demands on network bandwidth or managed endpoint processing bandwidth. Best of all, it delivers real-time visibility into endpoint FDCC compliance status and can proactively monitor for compliance deviations and automatically remediate computers to bring them back up to standard."

BigFix Security Configuration Management consolidates multiple security configuration management functions -- anti-virus and anti-spyware client management, security policy setting and enforcement, best practices-based baselining, and automated remediation -- through the BigFix Console and Platform. Its policy-driven approach provides a single management solution for multiple configuration management functions and enables IT administrators to effectively manage endpoints on and off the network.
