City of Fresno Deploys Proofpoint Messaging Security Gateway Appliance to Eliminate Spam and Viruses

(Aug 22, 2007)-- Proofpoint, provider of integrated email security and data loss prevention solutions, today announced that the City of Fresno, Calif., has deployed the Proofpoint Messaging Security Gateway(TM) appliance to protect its employees from incoming spam and viruses. Proofpoint blocks an average of 80,000 incoming spam messages a day for the City of Fresno, stopping virtually all spam right at the enterprise gateway.

The City of Fresno needed a more comprehensive messaging security solution to keep pace with the onslaught of unsolicited spam messages. The organization wanted an easy-to-deploy appliance that would effectively block new inbound email-borne threats as they appeared, with minimal ongoing maintenance requirements. The Proofpoint Messaging Security Gateway provided the City of Fresno with a unified solution for spam and virus protection and impressed the organization with its outstanding accuracy.

Powered by patent-pending Proofpoint MLX machine learning technology, the Proofpoint Spam Detection(TM) module examines hundreds of thousands of attributes in every email to provide complete protection against the latest spam techniques, including image-based, PDF-based and foreign language spam. Immediately upon deploying the appliance, Proofpoint blocked between 80,000 and 120,000 spam messages a day, without any instances of false positives, freeing employee inboxes of unwanted messages.
