Recall Corporation Opens Secure Document Destruction Facility in Baton Rouge

(March 13, 2008)--Document lifecycle management company Recall has opened a full-service secure document and electronic media destruction facility in Baton Rouge to accommodate the region’s sensitive information security needs. With this new facility, Recall can offer its customers collection and off-site destruction of sensitive documents and data storage media, as well as destruction of items with high intrinsic value, such as uniforms and defective merchandise.

In North America, businesses discard 22 tons of paper waste each hour, and research shows that two-thirds of stolen corporate information is taken from a company’s own dumpsters. Louisiana’s energy, finance, legal, and medical industries all generate an abundance of sensitive corporate and personal consumer information. Safeguarding information and personal privacy through secure destruction is not only a prudent business practice, but may help avoid punitive regulatory action and damage to brand reputation. Recall’s certified secure destruction process provides assurance to companies that their data has been properly destroyed.

“The importance of certifiable, secure destruction cannot be overstated, particularly for enterprises in a region that remains a vital national center for the energy industry as well as seaborne shipping,” said Dan McFarland, Vice President and General Manager, South Central Region, Recall Americas. “Additionally, there is a vibrant medical industry here, as well as financial services businesses, producing a great deal of scientific and confidential information that needs to be destroyed.”

Recall’s Baton Rouge secure destruction services help companies remain in compliance with data management regulations such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA), and more.

Secure destruction is an environmentally friendly business practice. Recall works closely with Waste Management Recycle America to ensure shredded documents are responsibly recycled. In 2007, Recall’s secure destruction operations saved over 2 million trees; 418,000 cubic yards of landfill space; 976 million gallons of water; and 8.3 million pounds of air pollution.
