Recall Corporation Opens Secure Document Destruction Facility in U.S. Capitol Region

(August 05, 2008)-- Document lifecycle management company Recall has opened a full-service, secure document and electronic media destruction facility in Lanham, Maryland to accommodate the U.S. Capitol region's sensitive information security needs. With this new facility, Recall can offer its customers collection and off-site destruction of sensitive documents and data storage media, as well as destruction of items with high intrinsic value, such as uniforms and defective merchandise. The site complements Recall's other Capitol area facilities in providing the full scope of document management services, including storage and archiving, document digitization, data protection, and disaster recovery and continuity for commercial, government, and other organizations.

In North America, businesses discard 22 tons of paper waste each hour, and research shows that two-thirds of stolen corporate information is taken from a company's discarded waste. The Capitol region's diverse business community, including government, high-tech, legal, and medical industries all generate an abundance of sensitive corporate and personal consumer information. Safeguarding information and personal privacy through secure destruction is not only a prudent business practice, but may help avoid punitive regulatory action and damage to brand reputation. Recall's certified secure destruction process provides assurance to companies that their data has been properly destroyed.

"Protecting sensitive information through affirmed destruction is no longer an option for organizations, it has become a strategic consideration to protect individuals as well as corporate reputation, and for government agencies to maintain the public trust," said Mike Hefner, General Manager, Business Unit North. "The Federal Trade Commission's emphasis on enforcement of the Disposal Rule of the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act is one example of how overlooking the importance of certified, secure destruction can come back to haunt a company, costing them in terms of fines, a damaged reputation, and lost business."
Recall's Lanham secure destruction services help companies remain in compliance with data management regulations such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA), and more.

Secure destruction is an environmentally friendly business practice. Recall works closely with Waste Management Recycle America to ensure shredded documents are responsibly recycled. In 2007, Recall's secure destruction operations saved over 2 million trees, 418,000 cubic yards of landfill space, 976 million gallons of water, and 8.3 million pounds of air pollution.
