Small Businesses Now Have Access To A Data Backup And Storage Solution Previously Only Available To Very Large Organizations

(Aug 19, 2008)-- Dependable Computer Guys (DCG) has partnered with Zenith Infotech to offer an affordable data backup solution that plugs up many of the "leaks" found in typical small business data storage systems. "This is the Rolls-Royce of backup and storage," says Brent Whitfield, President of Dependable Computer Guys. "This system resolves the security and accessibility concerns that come up when you rely on magnetic tape or local backup. Yet the cost is within the budgets of most smaller organizations."

In a recently published white paper available at http://www.dcgla.com/backup, Dependable Computer Guys identified 5 essential practices for reliable data storage and backup. Dependable SafeSTOR™ addresses all five.

Dependable SafeSTOR automatically backs up data every 15 minutes, using 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), considered the gold standard for protecting data. Encrypted copies of the data are created locally (for rapid restores) and at 2 remote locations in case of a major disaster. The process is monitored 24/7, and only the client has access to the encrypted data.

Whitfield is quick to point out numerous risks in using the less-robust data storage that small businesses typically rely on. For example, many companies store their data on magnetic tape, not realizing that failure rates for this media can be as high as 71 percent under certain conditions.

"The numbers show that the service we're offering is necessary," says Whitfield. "We've looked at a recent study which showed that only 6 percent of businesses were able to stay open over the long term after suffering a major loss of data. After such an event, 43 percent of these companies never reopened."

In many industries, secure data is a legal requirement. For example, the Healthcare Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) have strict mandates for the protection of data.

Dependable Computer Guys is a strong advocate for Business Continuity Plans (BCP). "BCP is the blueprint to how businesses plan to survive everything from local equipment failure to regional disasters," says a DCG white paper on the topic, which can be downloaded at http://www.dcgla.com/backup. "Having the ability to quickly restore data is a critical part of any Business Continuity Plan."

In order to help small businesses adopt a comprehensive BCP that includes data backup, Dependable Computer Guys is offering a month-long free trial of Dependable SafeSTOR until September 30th.

"The recent earthquake near Los Angeles is just a reminder of the importance and timeliness of this technology," says Whitfield. "No business can afford to leave it up to chance."
