Tumbleweed’s Email Security Solution Receives West Coast Labs Certification

(Feb 27, 2007)--Tumbleweed said that its MailGate Secure Messenger solution has received the Checkmark email security certification from West Coast Labs, a leading independent testing organization for information security products.

With organizations facing mounting email security challenges, West Coast Labs have designed a series of ‘real-world’ tests to ensure that potential buyers choose solutions that are able to address their needs effectively. The tests consider an email security solution’s encryption and decryption abilities, ease-of-use and deployment, methods of encryption and related security of any key exchanges, appropriate reporting and auditing features, and general administration tasks.

Tumbleweed’s MailGate Secure Messenger solution successfully passed all stages of testing. Among others, the solution proved that each and every time an end-user and/or administrator chooses to send an encrypted email, that email was verified as being 100 percent encrypted and unreadable in plain text. The same was true for the sending of unencrypted email being verified as 100 percent unencrypted and readable in plain text. The test report from West Coast Labs concluded that the MailGate Secure Messenger solution proved “to be an effective, comprehensive, and mature email security solution.”

The report also stated: “Tumbleweed’s MailGate Secure Messenger is a well-designed and proven email security solution that successfully addresses the diverse and demanding requirements of multiple industry sectors.

“As well as being fully transparent to the end-user and easy to administer, it resolves challenges raised by regulations like the European legislation on Data Protection, GLBA, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX).”
