Media Recovery Renews SAS 70 Certification, Completes New Storage Facility

(June 12, 2007)-- Media Recovery, the first Datacenter products and services company to achieve SAS 70 Type II Certification last year, recently had their SAS 70 Certification renewed by Weaver & Tidwell. SAS 70 Certification is only conferred after a company passes a rigorous and extensive audit of their Data Eradication and Tape Disposal Services. Media Recovery also recently completed enhancements to their Operations Center and transportation services by constructing a new floor-to-ceiling storage facility with a data vault capacity to secure over 300,000 data tapes that features card key security — allowing restricted access to only authorized personnel within the organization — and GPS tracking on Media Recovery vehicles transporting materials from the customer site into the facility.

With heightened data security concerns creating challenges for Datacenter professionals across the country, and the passage of legislation—such as Sarbanes-Oxley, the Financial Modernization Act of 1999, and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)—Media Recovery sought to renew their certification and upgrade their storage facility to provide documented and continued assurance to customers regarding the safety and reliability of their Datacenter service offerings.

The SAS 70 audit, a “Statement on Auditing Standards” by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), is an international standard used to measure the internal controls of a company’s services. Media Recovery’s SAS 70 Certification demonstrates well-documented controls at every level of their Data Eradication and Tape Disposal processes. The certification also provides assurance to customers who sell their used tape to Media Recovery for the creation of the signature product Media Recovery 100% Certified Tape. From on-site auditing and transportation to their secure Operations Center and the use of a proprietary code during processing to render any previous data completely unreadable, Media Recovery’s processes are rigidly controlled for complete confidentiality and security. SAS 70 Certification may also provide measurable cost savings to Media Recovery customers, as they might otherwise need to expend their own resources to demonstrate compliance with recent legislation.
