TCH Selects Hyland Software's OnBase to Complete Electronic Medical Records Initiative
(Oct 04, 2007)-- Hyland Software, developer of the OnBase enterprise content management (ECM) software suite, has been named by Texas Children's Hospital as the organization's chosen solution provider for document management.
Texas Children's is an internationally recognized leader in pediatric healthcare. Located in Houston, Texas, Texas Children's Hospital is comprised of more than 40 pediatric primary care centers throughout the Greater Houston community in addition to the main campus in the Texas Medical Center. All patient care centers and the hospital are included in the implementation.
Integrated originally with GE Logician, OnBase also will be integrated with EpicCare Hospital and Ambulatory solutions from Epic Systems Corporation to complete the hospital's electronic medical record (EMR) solution. The OnBase integration with Epic ensures that Texas Children's clinicians have access not only to the information stored natively in Epic but also the outside documentation that will now be presented seamlessly through the OnBase interface with Epic.
Together, Epic and OnBase will complete federally mandated electronic health record initiatives more than six years ahead of schedule. Reducing paper and adding levels of security and authentication, OnBase streamlines processes and will aid Texas Children's Hospital's HIPAA compliance.
In the business office, users benefit from the ability to access documents and processes in the document management solution directly from their familiar applications. For example, in Accounts Payable and Materials Management, users working in Oracle's PeopleSoft(R) applications can access supporting documentation and content without leaving their preferred line-of-business application. The integration minimizes end-user apprehension to a new software solution and is minimally disruptive so many users never know they are utilizing content from OnBase.
"OnBase has proven its integration with GE Logician, Epic, and PeopleSoft. When searching for an ECM solution, we required that the provider have experience not only in integrating with complementary applications but also have the expertise to support our back office operations such as Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Human Resources and our legal department, to make our ECM solution complete," explained David Finn, vice president and chief information officer for Texas Children's Hospital. "Hyland's proven experience in these applications and enterprise-wide scalability will support our mission to provide excellent patient care, while also enhancing our commitment to cost-effective service."
Becoming an OnBase customer in December 2006, the Texas Children's Hospital enterprise vision began with implementations in Accounts Payable (AP), Project Management/Services and the Emergency Department including all clinical users. The enterprise implementation will span every Texas Children's Hospital department and process within the next four years.
