LifeWise Offers HIPAA Compliant Report to its Arizona Members

(Dec 19, 2007)-- LifeWise Health Plan of Arizona is applying the axiom “you-can’ t-manage-what-you-don’ t-measure” to help its Arizona members learn their personal health numbers to encourage them to lead a healthier lifestyle.

To help its members achieve better health and assist their employers maintain more sustainable healthcare costs, LifeWise will make onsite workplace health screenings available to all of its insured employer groups with 51 or more employees beginning this month. These biometric health screenings will provide members with their personal measurements for cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar, heart rate and body mass index (BMI).

“Living healthier begins with knowing how healthy or unhealthy you really are. Today, employers, physicians and insurers must work together with members to help them take that first step,” said Tom Dameron, LifeWise President and CEO. “You don’ t do that by sending them a letter in the mail. You do it by reaching them where they spend most of their waking hours – at work.”

To provide its members with this service, LifeWise will facilitate the screening process by arranging with contracted healthcare professionals and nurses to conduct these onsite workplace confidential screenings. These screenings normally take about 15 minutes to take all of the measures.

The member will receive his or her results at the screening. This enables the nurse to review the results and provide guidance in real time. Only the employees see their actual scores. After about 30 days, employers will receive a HIPAA-compliant report giving aggregate scores. This report enables employers to develop wellness programs based on the needs of its employees.

“This is where wellness can begin – in the workplace. Many of America’ s largest employers have seen the financial rewards of encouraging wellness. LifeWise believes it’ s time for smaller employers to reap the benefits as well,” said Dameron. “Just as we are committed to making it easy for our members and employers to understand and use their insurance benefits, we are likewise committed to making it easier to stay healthy.”

The business community has already seen and recognized LifeWise’ s leadership in wellness for Arizonans.

“Making these screenings available to all of their clients with 51 or more employees demonstrates the LifeWise commitment to its members and their employers,” said Tom Richards, executive vice president of HUB International Milne of Arizona.
