Sunquest Information Systems Unveils New Version of its Anatomic Pathology Software

(Feb 04, 2008)-- "Maximizing productivity and reducing errors through pathology automation is one of the most important and exciting areas in healthcare today," stated Mike Snow, Chief Technology Officer, Sunquest Information Systems, on the announcment of its new Sunquest CoPathPlus v4.0 anatomic pathology software.

"By understanding the needs and priorities of our customers, we were able to develop features in Sunquest CoPathPlus 4.0 that seamlessly integrate with our LIS and provide them with maximum benefits and efficiency." He added.

Sunquest Information Systems announced its new Sunquest CoPathPlus v4.0 anatomic pathology software designed to automate processes and increase workflow efficiency for pathology departments at hospitals and laboratories. This latest version includes numerous new features and technology enhancements seamlessly integrated with its award winning Sunquest's Laboratory Information System. The Sunquest CoPathPlus v4.0 also supports a powerful, add-on module that integrates with the mTuitive xPert for Pathology Software for structured data capture and synoptic reporting. Sunquest CoPathPlus v4.0 is scheduled for release in March 2008.

The new module improves workflow productivity by providing seamless integration to a state-of-the art, structured data capture, synoptic reporting, and expert rules system based on the College of American Pathologists' Cancer Protocols and Checklist. It includes over 70 pre-built electronic templates to effectively reduce errors, help standardize on best operational practices, and assist with regulatory compliances.

"It is important that our organization is able to automate as many processes as possible and reduce redundancies in our workflow between our pathology departments, laboratories, and physicians," said William E. Sabol, director of clinical applications at Health Network Laboratories, a multi-regional medical laboratory with technologically advanced facilities in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. "The integration between Sunquest's CoPathPlus and Sunquest Laboratory software allows us to effectively streamline our operations and ultimately improve the healthcare experience for our patients."

Sunquest is actively enhancing the Sunquest CoPathPlus anatomic pathology system with numerous new feature enhancements that are tightly integrated with its award-winning Sunquest Laboratory Information System in order to increase productivity and improve workflow for its customers. This new integration with mTuitive will give Sunquest CoPathPlus users an industry-first seamless integration solution between LIS, anatomic pathology, and synoptic reporting.

Cancer Centers who maintain accreditation from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (ACS CoC) are required to meet minimum data reporting standards for the classification of malignant tumors. The College of American Pathologists (CAP) developed cancer protocols and checklists to assist pathology and oncology departments in meeting the ACS CoC standards. SNOMED International, a Division of the CAP, developed the SNOMED CT encoded versions of these checklists.

Sunquest's professional services division provides a wide array of management and technical tools, including lab redesign and optimization, outreach and lab network program development, and operational business and implementation plans in addition to HIPAA compliance assessment and implementation services.
