AirStrip Technologies Expands Hospital and Physician Reach
(May 01, 2008)-- With a goal of setting a new standard of care for remote surveillance, AirStrip Technologies has announced an ambitious effort to expand availability and reach strategic relationships with mobile device manufacturers, cell phone carriers and vendor partners for its signature product.
As part of its expansion plan, AirStrip Technologies is now establishing vendor neutrality after initially partnering exclusively with one vendor to market the FDA-cleared AirStrip OB. This software application provides obstetricians with virtual real-time, remote access to critical waveform data from hospital labor and delivery units (L&D) on their PDA or Smart Phone anywhere the physician has a cell phone connection. It will soon be available through a variety of perinatal vendors.
“With vendor neutrality in place, we can expand our vision of improving patient safety, increasing communication among caregivers and mitigating risk across the country,” said Cameron Powell, MD, President and CMO of AirStrip Technologies™. “We are thrilled with the growing popularity of AirStrip OB™ as more physicians sign on to use the product and tell us about the major improvements it makes in their labor and delivery units.”
AirStrip OB was introduced to the market in 2006 and is currently installed in approximately 40 leading U.S. hospitals. Obstetricians who use the technology uniformly praise AirStrip OB™ as a tool that improves safety for patients, helps doctors more effectively do their job, and reduces liability risk for hospitals and doctors.
“I use AirStrip OB every day. The tracings are very fast and have saved me a ton of time,” said Dr. David Aberman, who practices Obstetrics and Gynecology in Las Vegas, Nevada. “I can honestly say that patient care, patient safety and communication between the L&D nurses and myself has improved significantly.”
AirStrip OB software collects patient data on a hospital server, and then transmits that data via a cell phone connection through the internet. It allows obstetricians to view virtual real-time and historical fetal heart tracings and maternal contraction patterns while they are temporarily away from the hospital.
AirStrip OB is the first product developed and deployed from the AirStrip platform. AirStrip Technologies is currently working to support virtually all mobile devices utilizing any type of wireless internet connection.
AirStrip OB incorporates Smart Client Technology on Smart Phones and PDAs and is designed to comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations. AirStrip OB™ utilizes some of the strictest internet/wireless security measures available today.
While AirStrip OB is rapidly gaining market share in labor and delivery units across the country, there is great market anticipation for the expanded offerings in the AirStrip™ product line.
“We developed the AirStrip software to be a reusable platform,” said Trey Moore, CTO of AirStrip Technologies. “This enables us to rapidly implement our forthcoming products, which will feature similar virtual real-time and historical waveforms and other critical patient data on mobile devices for Cardiology, Imaging and the ICU.”
