DecisionHealth and Perimeter eSecurity Team Up to Educate the Healthcare Industry on IT Security
(May 26, 2008)-- DecisionHealth, America’s leading source for health care news, analysis and instructional guidance with an emphasis on accreditation, compliance and patient safety, along with Perimeter eSecurity, the market leader in on demand security services, announced today that they will partner to educate the healthcare industry on IT security and compliance issues via a series of initiatives including a free white paper and webinars.
Together with Perimeter, DecisionHealth will offer over 20,000 healthcare providers and administrators offering educational materials such as a white paper, “Securing Electronic Protected Health Information through Layered Security,” and an online webcast, “New Trends in E-Message Archiving for Health Care in 2008,” to offer security solutions.
“As hospital compliance with HIPAA has grown more urgent and with the advent of HHS Office of Inspector General (OIG) audits, each hospital must now provide multiple layers of protection for electronic protected health information (ePHI) within its many vulnerable networks and systems,” said Spencer Adams, Director Healthcare Security, Perimeter eSecurity. “We understand the need for information explaining relevant HIPAA standards, so we are now offering a 10-page white paper on this subject to assist facilities.”
According to the Perimeter eSecurity White Paper, “In order to insure the security of ePHI, HIPAA has defined a set of standards commonly known as the ‘Security Rule.’ The rule establishes a framework of administrative, physical, and technical safeguards and organizational requirements…In the context of this paper we will briefly review each safeguard in order to provide background for a discussion of layered network security.”
Perimeter and DecisionHealth will also offer a 24-minute webcast on the need for hospitals and other health care organizations to implement long-term indexing and archiving of email as well as instant messaging conversations.
“If businesses cannot retrieve specific e-mail records when regulators or investigators bang on the door, they run the risk of looking as if they are hiding information,” explains Corinne Kuypers-Denlinger, Vice President, Home Health, Hospital & Compliance, DecisionHealth.
DecisionHealth and its security partner, Perimeter eSecurity, will continue to collaborate on future projects to ensure that the nation’s health care providers have the more up-to-date security information to manage the ever-changing landscape of the industry.
