Terian Solutions Backs Up Vital Customer Data With BlueArc Titan Solution

(May 29, 2008)-- BlueArc Corporation announced that Terian Solutions, a leading online backup provider based in Houston, Texas, has implemented a BlueArc Titan storage solution for data protection services backed by world-record speed and accuracy, as well as a cost-effective foundation for future growth. The BlueArc Titan server cluster gives Terian Solutions customers priceless peace of mind, as BlueArc technology helps the service provider back up millions of customer files with minimal chance for disruption, and at a lower price per terabyte over the long term.

Terian Solutions customers include small publicly-traded firms and large privately-owned companies in industries including energy and health care. These companies share common traits such as rapid growth through mergers and acquisitions, as well as requirements that they comply with data retention and protection regulations (including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002). Terian Solutions supports these firms' lean IT teams with data protection services based on a cluster of two BlueArc Titan servers and a third BlueArc Titan server dedicated to data recovery.

Terian Solutions protects anywhere from 100 gigabytes to multiple terabytes of data for each of its customers. Backup tasks require high data availability around the clock, as customers perform validation and recovery tests during the day, while normal data backup jobs occur at night. But Terian Solutions' legacy storage system consistently failed to sustain adequate throughput, requiring hours-long stretches of server maintenance that in turn threatened data availability and service level agreements.

The clustered BlueArc Titan solution allows Terian Solutions to support customers' data protection tasks and perform maintenance with far fewer constraints on uptime. In a disaster recovery scenario, the world-record speed and accuracy of BlueArc Titan storage helps ensure Terian Solutions can copy millions of small files to disk and ship the data to the customer as fast as possible.

The selection of new storage technology represented an investment in the future for Terian Solutions. To that end, Mr. Pollvogt modeled the return on investment in BlueArc Titan storage for long-term value, and determined the price per terabyte would be lower than conventional software-based solutions. However, he could not put a price on the dedication of the BlueArc support team.
