Ochsner Health System Protects Private Health Information Online With Breach Security

(Dec 18, 2008)-- Breach Security announced that Ochsner Health System has selected Breach's WebDefend as its solution of choice for identifying web application defects and securing its websites from attack. The Ochsner Health System includes seven hospitals and more than 35 health centers, employing more than 11,000 employees system-wide.

Ochsner continuously meets the ever-changing patient and community needs through electronically linked hospitals and health centers. Electronic medical records are available from any Ochsner location, which allows for consistent patient care. As such, Ochsner selected WebDefend to protect its web applications, and to safeguard the private health information of its patients and employees as the organization expands its use of web applications.

"As a major regional healthcare system, it was imperative that Ochsner implement a web application firewall appliance that protects against emerging threats, such as SQL injection attacks, as well as identify application defects," said Mark Maher, security administrator for Ochsner Health System. "We were impressed by WebDefend's capabilities, ease of use and summary findings during the 30-day trial, making our choice clear-cut."

It was also important that Ochsner select a solution that was easy to implement, without changing or disrupting its network infrastructure. Deployed out-of-line, WebDefend uniquely provides non-intrusive, effective security for multi-application environments while continuing to provide full blocking capabilities. As a result, Ochsner had WebDefend up and running on its network within one hour.

"Protecting confidential data online is of increasing importance to organizations across a broad range of sectors. With HIPAA and other patient privacy measures in place, healthcare organizations are under increasing scrutiny to safeguard private health information," said Sanjay Mehta, senior vice president for Breach Security. "We're committed to delivering the most innovative and comprehensive solutions for web applications, and Ochsner's decision to partner with Breach further validates our leadership position and the strength of WebDefend."

Ochsner plans to use WebDefend to monitor requests and responses to and from its seven websites that are protected by WebDefend. In 2009, the organization intends to expand the reach of WebDefend's protection to 10-12 websites.
