Eracent Joins New ISO/IEC 19770 Study Group

(Oct 03, 2007)-- Eracent has joined ISO/IEC's new study group to develop additional Software Asset Management standards. As a member of the ISO/IEC JTC1/SC7 study group, Krzysztof (Chris) Baczkiewicz of Eracent will collaborate in the research and development of standards to support 19770-1 and extend the contribution that ISO/IEC has already made to Software Asset Management.

The first project for this group is to investigate the use of Maturity Models and identify a Software Asset Management Maturity Model. Maturity Models are routinely used to assess processes and to establish an action plan to achieve best practice processes. The existing standard ISO/IEC 19770-1 outlines the essential Software Asset Management practices and this new effort will help Software Asset Managers achieve those goals.

Our customers will benefit from having a reference model and further documentation that supports the achievement of the ISO/IEC 19770-1 standard.

"I am pleased to represent Eracent in this group and use our experiences to help build standardized knowledge that really works," said Baczkiewicz. "Our customers will benefit from having a reference model and further documentation that supports the achievement of the ISO/IEC 19770-1 standard."

The SC7 study group is developing a global survey to be distributed to all Software Asset Management professionals so that the Maturity Model is based on real-life experiences. The survey release date is scheduled for November.

The IT Standards Support Department is responsible for raising awareness of industry best practices and regulations such as ITIL v3, COBIT 4.1, IAITAM Best Practices Library, SOX (Sarbanes Oxley) and ISO standards (ISO/IEC 19770-1, ISO/IEC 20000-1, ISO/IEC 20000-2).
