OSHA Seeks Input from Stakeholders on Diacetyl and Food Flavorings Containing Diacetyl

(Sept 29, 2007)-- In a Federal Register notice published today, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is inviting the public to participate in its informal stakeholder meeting on Occupational Exposure to Diacetyl and Food Flavorings Containing Diacetyl.

"This meeting will provide another opportunity for the agency to collect additional information from all interested stakeholders on how to protect the health of employees exposed to diacetyl and food flavorings containing diacetyl," said Assistant Secretary of Labor for OSHA Edwin G. Foulke, Jr.

The stakeholder meeting will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 17, 2007, at the Crowne Plaza Washington National Airport Hotel, 1480 Crystal Drive, Arlington, Va., 22202. If more than 50 stakeholders register for the meeting, there will be a second meeting held Oct. 18 at the same location.

OSHA requests the public be prepared to discuss issues regarding occupational exposure to diacetyl and food flavorings containing diacetyl in their industry/job function including uses of the chemical; approaches used to assess exposure; available exposure data; controls utilized to minimize exposure including substitutes for diacetyl; and medical screening and surveillance.
