Clean Harbors Kimball Employees Recognized for OSHA VPP Merit Status

(June 20, 2008)-- Clean Harbors Environmental Services, provider of environmental and hazardous waste management services throughout North America, has received the "Merit" designation from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) for its Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Facility here. OSHA Area Director Ben Bare recently recognized the 120 Clean Harbors employees at the facility and noted the work performed by the VPP employee certification committee.

VPP is a comprehensive health and safety process that requires employee involvement, management support, and cooperation with OSHA. Recipients demonstrate a strong management and employee safety culture that ensures a safe and healthful workplace environment, with occupational injury and illness incidence rates below the state and national averages for companies within the same industry classification.

At Kimball, an all-volunteer employee committee worked for almost three years to analyze the facility's safety profile, develop a Gap analysis and implement procedures. Managers acted as adjunct members who facilitated changes and supported the employee committee's activities.

The Clean Harbors Kimball operation is a storage and treatment facility for a variety of industrial waste utilizing a state-of-the-art thermal oxidation unit (Incinerator) for maximum destruction efficiencies of hazardous waste. Environmental and occupational safety are of the highest priority throughout its operations.

"OSHA VPP recognition is a major accomplishment," commented Jared Hunsaker, Clean Harbors Kimball general manager. "The employees led the way. They recommended and implemented improvements to make our facility a leader in the industry. We are now working at one of the safest Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Facilities in the United States and our customers can be assured that their waste is being handled according to the highest OSHA standards."
