OSHA NewsRR Donnelley's Lynchburg, VA Facility Recommended for OSHA's VPP Star Status Recertification(Dec 16, 2008)-- R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company announced that its 725,000 sq. ft. facility in Lynchburg, VA has been recommended for recertification to OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star Status. Created in 1982, OSHA's Voluntary Protection Programs recognize and collaborate with businesses and worksites that show excellence in occupational safety and health. "We believe that safety is the first and most important measure of operational excellence," said John Paloian, RR Donnelley's Chief Operating Officer. "We are extremely proud of our employees' exceptional teamwork, innovation and attention to safety as reflected by VPP Star Status." RR Donnelley's Lynchburg, VA facility serves a roster of prominent regional and national customers with catalog and retail insert production and with associated services.According to Michael Manzella, RR Donnelley's Senior Vice President, Environmental, Health, Safety and Quality, "Recertification to Star Status is exceptionally challenging because it requires improvement from already strong safety performance. Employees in Lynchburg have been recognized for a variety of best practices that include innovations and excellence in employee safety awareness programs, fire brigade and medical response teams, industrial hygiene and others." According to OSHA, the average VPP worksite has a lost workday incidence rate at least 50 percent below the average of its industry. "Among all the many ways in which we lead our industry, none is more important than safety," added Paloian.
