Prevailing Wage Conference Aug. 18 to 20 in Chicago area offered by U.S. Department of Labor

(July 28, 2009) - A Prevailing Wage Conference in Chicago from Aug. 18 to 20 to provide information to the federal, state, and local contracting communities on labor laws applicable to American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act) projects will be hosted by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division. An insights on the Davis-Bacon Act (DBA), the McNamara-O’Hara Service Contract Act (SCA) and the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), and how those laws apply to projects funded by the Recovery Act will be attained by the Conference attendees.

Individuals wishing to attend should send their names, titles, organizations, e-mail addresses and telephone numbers to whdarra@dol.gov. There is no fee for attending this conference; however, space is limited. Upon receipt of this information, the Wage and Hour Division will advise each individual whether the request can be accommodated. The division expects to host additional Prevailing Wage Conferences in other regions of the country in the coming months. Members of the public should call 202-693-0664 with questions.

Federal representatives will conduct the program seminars — with special emphasis on DBA, SCA, and FLSA compliance principles; the process of obtaining wage determinations and adding classifications; compliance and enforcement processes; and the process for appealing wage rate, coverage and compliance determinations.
