Ounce Labs Granted Fourth Patent in Source Code Analysis and Security
(Sept 19, 2008)-- Ounce Labs announced it has been granted its fourth patent in the area of source code analysis and security. This patent is the latest in a series of grants for Ounce Labs, based on filings beginning as early as 2003.
"Recognition by the U.S. Patent Office of our unique and innovative approach to software security is very rewarding for our organization, especially given the fact that analysis at this scale, with this kind of
accuracy, was thought to be impossible when the company began," said Jack Danahy, founder and CTO of Ounce Labs. "Our development of this broad patent portfolio has been a natural outgrowth of the innovation that our customers expect of Ounce Labs. These patent grants and the patents pending show our
commitment to advancing the state of security assessment. We will continue to address application security problems using the most effective means possible."
"As an investor in Ounce Labs, we have been very pleased with the company's ability to execute on its vision. Ounce Labs' approach to the problem of enterprise application security is from a new perspective. That
innovation is validated through increasing customer successes and these patent grants from the USPTO," said Justin Perreault, Partner, Commonwealth Capital Ventures. "In our experience, these are indicators of real success, producing unique and important value."
Ounce Labs' products are used by organizations including many Fortune 500 companies, U.S. civilian and defense agencies, leading financial institutions, as well as noted technology firms. These next-generation source code analysis tools have eliminated many of the scalability, performance and inaccuracy concerns with earlier efforts to address the identification of vulnerabilities within software applications. In a recent report, the Web Application Security Consortium (WASC) indicated that there were vulnerabilities discovered in 85 percent of Web applications alone, highlighting the need to advance the usability, accuracy, and openness of scanning solutions.
"Since my arrival here at Ounce Labs, I have been impressed with the dedication of the team to solving new and important problems in innovative ways," said Gary Jackson, CEO at Ounce Labs, "These patents reflect the original design vision of the company's founders. Ounce is solving the hard problems and remains dedicated to our mission of ensuring that every company will have access to these tools and will be able to afford, deploy, and capitalize on them."
Ounce also helps organizations to verify regulatory and policy compliance, addressing PCI DSS, FISMA, HIPAA and others. For more information, please visit www.ouncelabs.com.
