Germany's Steinbrueck wants to tighten equity rules for banks further - report

German finance minister Peer Steinbrueck is trying to gather support for a proposal to tighten international equity capital requirements for banks, but has drawn a cool response, Die Zeit reported, without saying where it got the information.

Steinbrueck is in favour of revamping the capital requirement rules subsumed under the so-called Basel II agreement, trying to keep banks from incurring excessive risks, the weekly newspaper said in its online edition.
