French market may be less affected by financial markets meltdown - S&P

money.cnn.com

Standard & Poor's said the French structured finance market is likely to be less affected than other European jurisdictions by the global slowdown in 2008.

The ratings agency said the French securitisation market has had a typically diverse range of asset classes, low issuance volume and few repeat issuers, which have marked it apart from other European countries.

S&P said in spite of global market disruption, several positive factors suggest there will be increasing activity in terms of capital and liquidity management.

It said these include gradual changes to the cost funding structure of large retail banks in France resulting from the reduction of the regulated deposit framework and the implementation of Basel II regulations that will create incentives to transfer risks on certain asset types.
