Astra Mortgages reported a flurry of new business despite 87 per cent of advisers being unaware of the implications of Basel II.

The poll conducted among 87 mortgage advisers during February revealed nearly nine out of 10 did not know about Basel II, with 82 per cent also admitting they did not know which lenders had the FSA waiver that allowed them to provide risk-weighted products.

Stewart Hunter, head of introduced mortgages for Astra, said the seeming lack of awareness had not stopped a steady flow of business for the new risk-weighted products.
