Clinton challenges FDA, USDA to raise food safety

In the global economy, a sizable percent of the food on our tables comes from foreign countries. For example, a lot of the fruit Americans buy in winter comes from South America. Coffee, tea, spices and other daily foods are mainly imported. And recently after news broke of the pet food contamination, Americans may have been surprised to learn that this is even true for dog and cat food. Who would have thought that these foods contained wheat gluten from China? Last week, news of even more pet food recalls was announced. The one positive thing to come from all this is that it has raised our awareness of the need to monitor these overseas as well as domestic food sources.
