FDA approval of 'stress test' drug triggers $12M CV Therapeutics payment

CV Therapeutics Inc. and Astellas Pharma US Inc. said the Food and Drug Administration approved an injection for coronary artery disease testing, triggering a $12 million milestone payment to CV Therapeutics.

Palo Alto-based CV and Deerfield, Ill.-based Astellas said the Lexiscan injection is designed as a pharmacologic stress agent in testing to detect and characterize coronary artery disease for patients unable to undergo adequate exercise stress.

MPI tests, commonly called cardiac stress tests, identify areas of poor blood flow in the heart to help detect and characterize coronary artery disease, the most common type of heart disease.
