India's Aurobindo Pharma gets U.S. FDA final approval for generic Fosamax

India's Aurobindo Pharma Ltd. said it received final approval from the United States Food and Drug Administration to make and market a generic version of Merck & Co Inc.'s Fosamax, known as Alendronate Sodium tablets. The tablets used in the treatment of osteoporosis (bone disease) had annual sales of $1.98 billion for the year to December 2007, the company said in a regulatory filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange.
