Resources for Food and Drug Administration (FDA)FDA: New data show no stroke risk with inhalerwww.businessweek.com New data show no increased risk of stroke for patients using an inhaler drug, health regulators said Tuesday, less than a month after another study suggested the medication may raise the risk of heart attack. The Food and Drug Administration said Boehringer Ingelheim provided the agency with new data on the safety of its drug tiotropium, which is sold as the Spiriva Handihaler under an agreement with Pfizer Inc. The drug is used to treat patients with emphysema and chronic bronchitis. The German drugmaker in March told the FDA that a company study had shown a slightly higher rate of stroke for patients using Spiriva compared with placebo.
