FDA approves American Medical prolapse treatment

Regulators approved American Medical Systems Inc.'s Elevate Anterior Prolapse Repair System for sale, the company said Thursday. The system is designed to treat prolapse, a condition in which one or more pelvic organ protrude or herniate into the vaginal wall. American Medical Systems said the Food and Drug Administration approved a separate prolapse treatment, AMS' Elevate Posterior Prolapse Repair System, in 2008.
