Merck gets 2nd FDA delay on Gardasil expansion

Merck & Co. said Friday the Food and Drug Administration has again asked for more data before making a decision on expanding approval of the Gardasil human papillomavirus vaccine to include use by older women.
The vaccine is currently approved for women ages 9 to 26 years old and is meant to guard against HPV, which causes cervical and other sexually transmitted cancers. The company is seeking clearance to allow the vaccine to also be prescribed for women between 27 and 45 years old.
