Guilty plea in falsifying cadaver medical records on transplant tissue raises safety questions

Monday's resolution of a case involving human body parts sold for tissue transplants continues to raise questions about a little-known process that supplies a major medical industry.Philip Joe Guyett Jr. faces up to 60 years in prison after pleading guilty in U.S. District Court in Raleigh to three mail fraud charges. The crimes occurred in 2005 when he ran Donor Referral Services of Raleigh. Guyett fabricated the health histories of deceased human donors, some of whom had diseases that disqualified their tissue for transplant.
