New legislation that would require the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council to improve its methods for directing and referring consumer complaints and inquiries regarding banking services and transactions is not needed to facilitate the work already being conducted by FFIEC agencies and the Federal Reserve, Fed Consumer and Community Affairs Director Sandra Braunstein said today.

Braunstein said that "considerable progress" is being made by FFIEC to revise the consumer complaint handling and resolution process "in ways that are consistent with the proposed bill."
