Hackers breach UM computers

Hackers using internet addresses in China and Australia breached the University of Missouri's computer system late last week.Although the breach was sealed, the hackers had a chance to lift the names and Social Security numbers of more than 22,000 people associated with the university system.Officials said today that those affected were employees in 2004 on any of the system's campuses who were also current or former students at the University of Missouri-Columbia.The problem cropped up Thursday, when university computer technicians noticed unusual acitvity. The problems continued Friday, when the technicians traced the activity to Web addresses in China and Australia.
