The future can’t get here soon enough for Janice Baker, MD. As one of the senior physicians in a family care practice affiliated with a teaching hospital, she is well acquainted with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems and has used both desktop and notebook computers for accessing and updating patient records. “We’ll be moving to a portable computer-based system,” she says, “which will eventually make many things easier, because our records will be online and we’ll be able to check boxes and add notes and annotations wherever required.”
