Tech security can add a competitive edge

Even though most organizations are being pushed into compliance, leading the pack in data security can be a competitive edge, a panel of experts told the Glima Southwest audience at Western Michigan University's Fetzer Center last week.
The annual Glima Southwest conference and exposition focused on data security. If a company has not been hit by hackers or data thieves, either it will be, or it already is affected but no one's detected the security breach yet, experts said.
Turning a security requirement into an opportunity just takes a change of perspective, according to Vincent Polley, a partner at Dickinson Wright law firm, where he co-chairs the information technology and security law practice group. He also serves on several technology-related committees for the American Bar Association.
