The Health Information Exchange of New York has received a $4.6 million grant from the state Health Department.

The grant was one of 19, totaling $105 million, the state awarded to various health information technology projects to help build an infrastructure through which patient information may be shared. The goal is to reduce errors, improve record keeping, prevent duplication of tests and procedures, and improve overall efficiency, thus trimming costs and improving the quality of care.

The grants ranged from $1 million to $10 million each.
