HIPAA needs to be discarded

www.greenbaypressgazette.com

Have you ever overheard seniors discussing their health or that of some friend in a public place? If health-care professionals repeated the same words to the very same people so openly, they'd be subject to HIPAA fines. The gossiping seniors are not subject to fines, even if their friend objects. He/she would have to take the gossipers to court to prove damage.

The whole HIPAA law, federal and state versions, should be discarded. No damage done, no harm, no case — just like most other laws.

People doing the job must be protected as well as the person receiving the service. I've been the near-victim when a customer, unhappy I took "too long" to fill a prescription, filed a complaint with the Pharmacy Board suspecting I had done something improper while filling her prescription.
