HIPAA violations cost two jobs

Two nurses have been fired from South Jersey Healthcare-Regional Medical Center for violating privacy laws since a state health worker's union began representing nurses at the Vineland facility last year, according to the union president.

"One nurse was fired while we were in the process of contract negotiations," Michelle Silvio, president of the local chapter of Health Professionals and Applied Employees, said on Friday, adding that another registered nurse was fired within the last couple of months.
