This document defines a deployment plan for implementing the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) transactions throughout the healthcare industry. It establishes industry priorities and provides a framework for an orderly transition to implementation of the HIPAA ANSI ASC X12N Transactions and Code Set Standards as defined in the final rule dated August 17, 2000 . It also references work being done by National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP) to define similar guidelines for implementing the NCPDP transactions named in the final rule.
