n spite of increasing pressure from governments via Sarbanes-Oxley, the UK Combined Code, HIPAA and other technology compliance regulatory norms, only 12% of businesses operate board-level oversight of their IT resources, according to IT Governance, a UK-based publisher and distributor of books, tools, training and consultancy on governance, risk and compliance.

IT Governance surveyed 100 technology and compliance professionals on a range of issues and found that IT governance frameworks, such as ITIL, CoBIT and ISO27001, are used in less than 50% of organisations. About 16.5% respondents said that progress was being made towards achieving this.
