Folsom Prison faces stiff OSHA fines

Infections of various inmates and guards at Folsom State Prison with a debilitating staphylococcus skin disease led state occupational-safety officials Tuesday to cite the California Department of Corrections for several workplace violations, threatening fines of more than $20,000 if a Wednesday compliance deadline was not met.

A final Cal-OSHA inspection date at the prison was Tuesday. OSHA gave prison officials just 24 hours to comply with workplace laws, in effect saying that efforts up through Tuesday had been insufficient.
